As the saying goes: "Repetition is the mother of skill." The more you train, the better you'll get. However, that's an idealistic view. In reality, you should train as often as you realistically and sustainably can. Life can get in the way, and it can be more effective to start slow (once a week) and increase later as your situation evolves. I personally trained once a week for a year before increasing to four times a week.
Unfortunately we do not have any kids classes. We are currently focusing on adults.
To be effective for kids, the instruction must be adapted as they learn differently than adults. This means that having mixed classes isn't advised as neither the kids nor the adults would learn effectively. On top of that, the difference in size & strength would create safety challenges.
If you are looking for kids self-defense class. Have a look at Black Dragon Jiu Jitsu. They are also oriended self-defense and they have a kids program.
No you do not. We assume that our new members are starting from scratch and our classes are designed for it. Krav Maga is a strike based system and if you have any prior experience with such a system, you will progress faster. But this is not a requirement.
Sparring is an essential tool in Krav Maga training but it's introduced gradually. Beginners are not put into sparring scenarios as it can be overwhelming and counterproductive. First, we focus on building skills through intermediate exercises. This approach also considers the confidence levels of our students, ensuring no one is pushed too quickly into situations they're not ready for. You should not expect hard sparring session before joining our intermediate level.
Competitions in self-defense are not conducted due to the inherent unpredictability of real-life threats and the safety concerns associated with practicing potentially injurious techniques in a competitive environment.
Additionally, self-defense training emphasizes practical skills tailored to real-world scenarios, which do not align with the standardized rules and scoring systems of competitions.
Finally, the competition mindset do not reconcile with the self-defense mindset. In a self-defense situation winning means not being hurt. In a competition, winning means defeating your opponent.
Krav Maga Global has a grading system but this system does not include belts. If you want to know more about the system, have a look at our "Grading system" page.
